The Open-Source Technology That Could Change Mining, Demonstration on Galena // Rowow
Salt, water, and electricity, used to pull metals out of ore, e-waste, and mine tailings. This is SEM TECH, and the ion exchange membranes that make it work are open hardware.
Can salt and electricity extract metal from galena ore, without relying on a traditional furnace-based mining process?
In this video, I demonstrate SEM TECH: Salt Electro Mining Technology, an open-source electrochemical system designed to extract, concentrate, and refine metals from ore using electricity and salt-derived chemistry.
This test uses galena ore, a naturally occurring lead-sulfide mineral. The ore is processed through my homemade electrochemical mining unit, where the working solution is regenerated and recycled while dissolved metals are recovered as a concentrated solid product.

Electrochemical Green Steel at Room Temperature, No Blast Furnace
Green steel without a blast furnace: electrochemical iron reduction using ion exchange membranes, running at room temperature.
The blast furnace is responsible for roughly 8% of global CO2 emissions. Hydrogen DRI is the main proposed replacement, but it needs green hydrogen infrastructure that mostly doesn't exist yet. This video covers a different path: reduce iron oxide directly via electrochemistry across an ion exchange membrane, at low temperature, with a few volts of input.
The video explains why conventional steelmaking is built around cheap coal and high-grade ore, how ion exchange electrolysis can plate iron out of solution while regenerating acid, why electrochemistry gives finer control than heat, and what the energy-per-ton numbers actually look like when power is cheap and clean.
This is bench-scale R&D, open source, with more details released as testing progresses. Not commercial scale yet, but the chemistry is repeatable.

Replicating and Testing @Rowow 's Open Source Cation Exchange Membrane // PushingButtons
In this video, a successful replication and test of Robert Karas's (@Rowow channel) cation exchange membrane is presented. Thank you Robert for open sourcing the patent of your membrane recipe.
The membrane is prepared by first grinding cation exchange beads (used for pool filters) to a fine powder. Powder is then thoroughly mixed in about a 50/50 by volume ratio with clear PVC cement. The mixture is applied to woven fiberglass and allowed to cure in open air at room temperature for about two hours, this results in a cation exchange membrane. The membrane allows cations to readily pass across it in a solution, but blocks the flow of anions.
A sample prepared membrane was successfully tested using sodium chloride in water and an electrolysis setup. Anode and cathode were separated by the membrane. At the anode side the solution became acidic, while at the cathode side the solution became basic, indicating a functioning cation exchange membrane.
