-- The  aim  of  the  present  study  was  to  investigate  the  effect  of  electromagnetic radio  frequency  treatment  of  water  on  the  growth  of  pepper  (Capsicum  annuum)  plants.  For  this  experiment,  one  hundred  one-week  old  plants  were  divided  into  two  groups.  The  first  group  of  plants  was  watered  with  water  subjected to radio frequency electromagnetic radiation from an internet router  for  one  hour  a  day,  while  the  other  group  was  watered  with  tap  water  (control).  The  overall  results  showed  changes  of  growth  characters  of  plant  watered  with  electromagnetic  water.  The  length  of  pepper  plants  is  significantly  affected  by  the  treated  water,  where  the  length  of  shoot  was  lower  in  plants  grown  under  the  effect  of  treated  water  (22.43  ±  7.17  cm)  than  those  grown without treated water (28.11 ± 8.57 cm). The results revealed that the stem diameter of control plants (1.74 ± 0.39 cm) was significantly higher than that  of  the  treated  plants  (1.66  ±  0.35  cm).  In  addition,  the  root  length  was  lower  in  plants  grown  under  the  effect  of  treated  water  than  those  grown  without  treated  water.  Pepper  plants  watered  with  electromagnetic  treated  water exhibited marked decreases in health index, fresh and dry weight, relative  water  content,  number  of  flowers  and  fruits/plant  as  well  as  number  of  seeds/fruit. In addition, the current experiment showed a significant decrease in the number of leaves, branch and flower per plant when watered with electromagnetic  treated  water.  The  results  revealed  that  the  first  flowering  time for  plants  in  treated  group  was  remarkably  decelerated  when  compared  to  other plants in control group.

How many casualties will there be in the next world war?  Nenner estimates,
    “It’s very interesting how you calculate something like that.  It’s the same way you calculate a cycle in IBM.  When you see IBM going down, you can get an upside price target, which we have.  You can do the same thing on the war cycle.  About one third of the population is not going to survive in this world.”
So, more than 2.5 billion people are going to die in the next world war that is just around the corner?  Nenner says,
    “Yes, the numbers say if you have a world war, it’s going to take out 1/3 of the population.”

Coconut Oil vs Tooth Decay
...Scientists tested coconut oil against Streptococcus mutans – a sugar-loving bacterium that clings to teeth and produces acid causing them to rot.
    When the oil was treated with digestive enzymes it became a powerful killer of the bug.    
    Lead researcher Dr Damien Brady, of the Athlone Institute of Technology in Ireland, said: ‘Dental caries is a commonly overlooked health problem affecting 60 to 90 per cent of children and the majority of adults in industrialised countries.
    ‘Incorporating enzyme-modified coconut oil into dental hygiene products would be an attractive alternative to chemical additives, particularly as it works at relatively low concentrations.’
    He added that his findings could prove to be important considering the problem of bugs’ increasing resistance to many existing antibiotic treatments.
    Dr Brady’s experiments were inspired by previous research showing that partially digested milk made S. mutans less likely to stick to tooth enamel.
    He said: ‘Our data suggests that products of human digestion show antimicrobial activity.
    ‘This could have implications for how bacteria colonise the cells lining the digestive tract and for overall gut health.’
    He now plans to check if the enzyme-treated coconut oil has any other killer qualities.
    Tests already suggest it combats Candida albicans, which causes thrush, the Society for General Microbiology’s autumn conference heard.

    Pitch-black Aerographite could juice batteries of the future
    A light-absorbing midnight-black substance dubbed Aerographite has stolen the crown for the lightest material in the world, weighing just 0.2mg per cubic centimetre. And because of its special properties, it's a serious contender to build lithium-ion batteries small and light enough to power the electronic bikes and cars of the future.
    Boffins in Germany constructed the new material by weaving together a network of porous carbon tubes at nano and micro level to create the stuff that is 75 times lighter than Styrofoam...
    Adelung and other researchers from Kiel Uni and the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) worked together to make the substance using a powdered zinc oxide.
    The boffins heated the zinc oxide up to 900°C to transform it into a crystalline structure. From that stuff, the scientists made a kind of pill, inside which the zinc oxide had formed micro and nano structures called tetrapods... so the "pill" is actually porous.
    The pill was then stuffed into a reactor for chemical vapour deposition and cooked up to 760°C to lay on a few coats of graphite.
    "In a streaming gas atmosphere that is enriched with carbon, the zinc oxide is being equipped with a graphite coating of only a few atomic layers," Schuchard explained, "This forms the tangled-web structures of the Aerographite. Simultaneously, hydrogen is introduced. It reacts with the oxygen in the zinc oxide and results in the emission of steam and zinc gas.
    "The faster we get the zinc out, the more porous the tube's walls get and the lighter the material. There is considerable scope."
    The stuff the boffins end up absorbs light rays almost completely so it is jet-black, it stays stable and is conductive and ductile. The aerographite is also resilient, withstanding both compression and tension...

    Jon Harms describes himself as a “mad inventor.”..    Harms’ quest for efficiency led him to invent the AerMist system, an air conditioner supercharger. ..
    One product, the EcoDitioner, can boost the power of a quarter-ton air conditioner to the equivalent of a 2-ton unit. Running the EcoDitioner costs about 7 cents an hour, significantly less than a 2-ton unit, which costs 42 cents an hour. The system also uses less water than traditional evaporative coolers, known as swamp coolers...
    Harms’ invention works by adding special ducts and ceramic rocks to traditional air conditioners. He invented both the cooling ducts and the rocks.
    The rocks trap moisture and cool air from the air conditioner, so when it is shut off, a booster continues to push cold air stored in the rocks into the rooms. That keeps the area cooler for longer periods of time than a traditional air conditioner, which only cools when running. The system also requires less energy than its conventional counterparts because the compressor doesn’t have to fire as frequently.
    “Your cycling time is longer,” said Harms, who added that the system works the same way for heating. “The biggest killer on the AC is the big old compressor.”
    The cost of the system varies but starts at around $2,000. It can be installed in a single day...

The borax is 11.3% boron (88.7% is harmless carrier powder that will drop tot he bottom of the container; we throw it out when it gets down to that level).
    Take two spoonfuls in a glass of water first thing in the morning for a week to get used to it, then if okay take another one at night.
    If you find it is unpleasant, start with half a spoonful until you get used to it, then increase the dosage.
    My wife had osteoarthritis destroying her spine and walked with an aid. Our doctor, an Associate Professor Medicine, said she would be in 'palliative care' within three months and dead in a year.
    That was six years ago. She now stands straight and walks unaided.

    The candle, a mix of mozzie-repelling ingredients that are released in an invisible plume to protect within a 5m radius, is being backed by the Ugandan government as a solution to a malaria epidemic.    James Cook University entomologist Dr Scott Ritchie conducted tests and found the candle was 85 per cent effective in repelling mosquitoes, compared with sandalwood sticks (73 per cent), pyrethroid coils (64 per cent) and citronella candles (42 per cent).

"It turns out that the slowest, hardest, most-energy-consuming step in the water-splitting process is actually the oxygen-making step. We've been studying catalysts for making oxygen. Specifically, we're seeking catalysts that reduce the amount of energy it takes in this step and that don't use expensive precious metals."..
    "What we found is that when we take nickel oxide films that start out as a crystalline material with the rock-salt structure like table salt, they absorb iron impurities and spontaneously convert into materials with a layered structure during the catalysis process," Boettcher said.
    Lena Trotochaud, a doctoral student and lead author on both papers, studied this process and how the films can be combined with semiconductors. "The semiconductors absorb the light, generating electron-hole pairs which move onto the catalyst material and proceed to drive the water-splitting reaction, creating fuel," Boettcher said.
    The computer modeling was used to understand how the amount of sunlight that the catalyst blocks from reaching the semiconductor can be minimized while simultaneously speeding up the reaction with water to form oxygen gas. This basic discovery remains a lab accomplishment for now, but it could advance to testing in a prototype device, Boettcher added...

The Orgonite Experiment -- How to super-size your vegetables

    My first steps on the Orgonite trail took place in Spring 2008, when I decided to distribute the mysterious ‘pucks’ of resin, metal and crystal among friends with allotments and gardens. The resultant, and unexpected, vegetable growth (FT249:24) only served to send me further down the path. Orgonite is a recent invention building on the concept of Dr Wilhelm Reich’s Orgone Accumulator, a device he believed stored and concentrated positive energy (see FT107:26–30). The Orgonite pucks are solid-state versions of the same concept which are intended to take in negative energies and emit positive ones.
    In 2009, I decided to find out more about how this simple composite mat­erial – made from aluminium shavings, resin and a crystal – functioned when used by a wider group of people. Was there some person-specific phenom­enon which massively accelerated plant growth, resulting in giant vege­tables? Or was the motive force provided by the Orgonite itself, somehow acting on the environment?
    A very informal trial was set up locally in Brighton, in conjunction with EcoLogicCool, a small shop specialising in power-saving and energy management hardware as well as recycled gifts. Shop owner Jake Greene was “up for it” as an experiment, and – although he had no investment in the project – was happy to humour me by placing a puck with each of the two palm plants in the store. The shop would simply be acting as a central distribution point for the Orgonite, as well as for the disposable 24-shot cameras offered as a documentation tool for those who didn’t have digital cameras or suitably equipped mobile phones.
    A questionnaire was prepared beforehand, which the participants had to fill out, covering a range of topics from gardening skills to paranormal belief. They were then handed either one or two ‘tower buster’ (TB) Orgonite pucks, depending on the size of their gardens, with an estimated effect radius of 3–4.5m for plants when buried in the ground. People without allotments or gardens were still welcomed and told to use potted plants to see the effects.
    Word of mouth acted as an initial call for participants, and this was followed by a nationally distributed press release announcing the trial. Participants ranged from keen gardeners to weekend dabblers, from members of the clergy to local police officers, each taking away one or two of the TBs. Strangely, the Green Party, who had a stall set up nearby to attract new members, seemed to resist offers to join in the free trial, which would have required no more than simply walking the short block to “EcoLogicCool”.
    With the trial being covered twice on BBC Sussex – the prime 7.30 morning slot and a specialist Sunday gardening show – the range was extended to include keen gardeners outside Brighton, with even the BBC’s local morning team joining in the experiment. One specific invitation was to people with ‘brown thumbs’ – those who seem to kill any plant they’re given. This would hopefully demonstrate whether some psi elements were at work, as similar interference on psycho­tronic hardware had been reported in past tests.
    The number of TB pucks given out locally was close to 100, with half being funded by me as part of a longer and more detailed research project with Black Ice magazine, and the other half kindly donated by the supplier at One of the earliest results came back from G Davies, a gard­ener with a polytunnel greenhouse, who had already started growing her green beans. She commented that she “was eating runner beans 31st of May” from her allotment, very much earlier than expected.
    The use of Orgonite in gardening had also sparked the interest of organisers at the Liverpool Biennial after a couple of TBs were given out during a lecture at the city’s Made Up Weekend, both of which produced extreme growth increases on indoor potted plants. These personal results led to setting up a further two-part lecture and trial in Seaforth, using the same methodology as in the local Brighton trials. TBs were purchased and a box donated by the maker. About 20 locals arrived, and with the exception of one paranoid individual attempting to derail the lecture (before the bulk of the audience turned on him), the take-up was exceptional, clearing out all the TBs and the 25 or so disposable cameras.
    Another piece of early evidence could literally be seen in my backyard on my return from Liverpool. Given that I have no access to the basement flat’s backyard, I had simply thrown a couple of pucks out of the bathroom window during the summer of 2008. Over that summer, the hedges on both sides of the property grew like mad and were noticeably much larger than in previous years. Finally, both sides got so tall that the landlord had to have them cut down by a professional; the resulting cutback was so severe that the landlord thought the hedges had been killed. Gazing out the window now, it struck me that not only were the hedges not dead, they had in fact grown back to the point that the one on the left side was close to covering half the yard.
    This dramatic growth spurt is compar­able to that of the hazel tree reported by M Rogers of Shoreham (FT249:24), who continues to get reliable growth from a grapevine “that used to produce these bitter little peas and for the second year running is producing a vineyard in my greenhouse”.
    The initial press release sent out at the end of March 2009 spread far and wide, appearing on a range of news websites, with five pages of results on Google and a Digg entry. One surprising appearance, becoming the basis for a 340+ page thread, was on the David Icke forum where people who have experience with Orgonite are sharing reports and photos of their own Orgonite creations. Multiple attempts have been made by a few posters to derail the thread, which has now been made ‘sticky’ (i.e. can’t be deleted). Such posters are always countered with lucid arguments and observations by those on the forum with hands-on experience. These include a curious result with freezing water combined with Orgonite, producing stalagtites and highly visible vortex formations.
    P Gardner, who makes his own Orgon­ite, explained: “The ice thing seems to work 99 per cent of the time – only a couple of occasions out of many without noticeable results. Varying permutations of TBs – above/below/both – and contents of Orgonite – types of quartz, wire wraps etc – seem to have a noticeable difference on the form­ations produced.”
    Wanting some sort of explanation of how the Orgonite was affecting the water, he took a piece into a secondary school science department to get their take on it. “All were pretty flummoxed, agreeing that something was going on but they didn’t really know what,” he reports.
    Gardner has not pursued all the variations in the Orgonite material design, reasoning thus: “I now know it just does ‘work’. I don’t really feel the need to prove it to myself.” It’s a common reaction, and for many Orgonite users, following a season or two of except­ional plant growth, further ‘teasing out’ of the ‘why’ isn’t needed.
    Other observations of Orgonite effects are being reported. One active poster, Natalie in the US, commented that she has “noticed Orgonite makes a positive effect on my mood as well as my energy level. Placing Orgonite on my incoming power supply has also decreased my electrical usage and expenses! Also sleeping near small pieces of Orgonite is improving my quality of sleep. I sent some Orgonite to two family members who also confirm that it is improving their sleep. One has had chronic insomnia in the past and now takes the Orgonite everywhere he travels to insure a good night’s sleep!”
    These subjective physiological reports continue to be scattered among the collected anecdotes concerning Orgonite effects. B Harrison in Lancashire was mailed two pieces in order to reproduce the basic seed germination tests. Instead, he pursued his own test on himself, having suffered from chronic leg pain and numbness for some time, possibly due to a cartilage issue. He simply put a TB in his trouser pocket and within two weeks the long-running pain was gone. He then repeated this experiment on a Manchester-based friend with a similar leg complaint; likewise, the condition cleared up.

Scientists Mimic Beetle’s Liquid Cannon

    Scientists at the University of Leeds have engineered a new spray nozzle that mimics the bombardier beetle’s diminutive liquid cannon.
    The team led by Andy McIntosh, a professor of Thermodynamics and Combustion Theory, built a model of the beetle’s firing physiology with a two centimeter chamber that can shoot liquids four meters.
    For scale, that chamber’s about the size of this army man’s gun. As amazingly, the same apparatus can also create a mist with droplets as fine as two microns.
    How does it work? The Professor says that "it’s a high-force steam cavitation explosion." Most bombardier species generate it by mixing hydroquinone, hydrogen peroxide, and some catalysts. When the juice hits air, "it volatizes instantly… generating a puff of ’smoke’ and an audible popping sound."
    No word on the exact mix that the commercial µMist (TM) nozzle will be using.

    Lightning-powered mushrooms could boost food yields

   New research reveals that mushrooms and some vegetables multiply rapidly when struck by lightning.
    Japanese farming lore has long observed that plentiful mushroom harvests tend to follow thunderstorms. Now researchers at Iwate University in northern Japan have confirmed the legend, finding that some mushrooms more than double their yields when jolted by electricity.    
    The results could lead to new harvesting methods that would significantly increase food production. That's good news for a Japanese food industry where mushrooms are a popular staple, and where around 50,000 tons of mushrooms must be imported a year, mainly from China and South Korea, just to meet the high demand.
    The study reached its conclusions after four years of bombarding mushrooms with artificially induced lightning, reports National Geographic. Ten varieties of mushroom were tested, and eight of those species responded by growing at an increased rate when electrified. The fungi reacted best when exposed to between 50,000 and 100,000 volts for one ten-millionth of a second.
    Researchers were able to get the shiitake crop to yield double the amount usually harvested, but the best performing species were nameko mushrooms, which produced a whopping 80 percent more mushrooms....
    Young inventors test energy saving engine  - Lipika-Kanishk team await Tata motors nod

   Patna, Dec. 24: A young couple from Patna have invented an energy-saving engine, at a cost of Rs 35,000, which can run without petrol or diesel and can last for a 4.5-lakh kilometre run.
    Kanishk and Lipika Sinha are a wife-husband team of inventors of the fuel-free engine that they invented some three years ago. Kanishk Sinha recently got the engine patented (1077/Del/2005) with BigPatents India, a body supported by the Ford Foundation.
    The duo today carried out a demonstration by running a bicycle with the engine. Though the mechanic who ran it seemed tad afraid of its speed at first, later he managed an effective demonstration.
    The young inventors have completed their MSc in physics from Northeastern Hill University, Shillong. They carried out a research for three to four years before concluding that a “chemical reaction with pure oxygen” causes Q energy to run a dynamo.
    “The vehicle made to run without conventional form of fuel is based on the law of interconvertible energy which states that total energy in an isolated system is conserved and can neither be created nor destroyed.
    “The motor created by us has a power range of 40-50MW, good enough to meet the needs of a four-wheeler,” explained Lipika.
    The inventors added that an engine would cost Rs 35,000 and can be refilled for Rs 10,000. Any four-wheeler could be fitted with the eco-friendly fuel-free engine. Though both claimed that there are thin chances of an engine breakdown, the husband-wife team have taken it upon themselves to train engineers and mechanics and place the engines in towns across Bihar and Bengal.
    “We received a proposal from Tata Motors stating that they would like to give our invention a brand name and its service centres,” said Kanishk.
    He added that he would soon ink an agreement with Tata Motors for the manufacture of the patented engines for common use. “We just heard from a Tata Motors official called Ravikant regarding the decision,” said Kanishk.
    The engine has no exhaust pipes and thus it is pollution free. “Another strong feature is its suitability. It can bear the rough, tough and bumpy Bihar roads,” said the young man enthusiastically.
    “Hopefully our luck would turn if we collaborate with Tata Motors,” said Kanishk.
    Till that happens and their engines start their magic, the young inventors are happy supporting themselves by running a restaurant at Ashiana Nagar here.

Electric Currents Boost Brain Power"

       Connecting a battery across the front of the head can boost verbal skills, says a team from the US National Institutes of Health.
        A current of two thousandths of an ampere (a fraction of that needed to power a digital watch) applied for 20 minutes is enough to produce a significant improvement, according to data presented this week at the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience, held in San Diego. And apart from an itchy sensation around the scalp electrode, subjects in the trials reported no side-effects.
        Meenakshi Iyer of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in Bethesda, Maryland, ran the current through 103 initially nervous volunteers. "I had to explain it in detail to the first one or two subjects," she says. But once she had convinced them that the current was harmless, Iyer says, recruitment was not a problem.
        The volunteers were asked to name as many words as possible beginning with a particular letter. Given around 90 seconds, most people get around 20 words. But when Iyer administered the current, her volunteers were able to name around 20% more words than controls, who had the electrodes attached but no current delivered. A smaller current of one thousandth of an amp had no effect.
        Iyer says more work needs to be done to explain the effect, but she speculates that the current changes the electrical properties of brain cells in the prefrontal cortex, the brain region through which it passes. She believes that the cells fire off signals more easily after the current has gone by. That would make the brain area, a region involved in word generation, generally more active, she suggests.
        Iyer's group, which is led by Eric Wassermann, was prompted to run the tests after considering problems facing researchers who were studying the effect of magnetic fields on the brain. Some neuroscientists hope that magnetic fields could have a therapeutic effect, perhaps by boosting activity in areas of the brain that have suffered cell loss owing to dementia. But magnetic fields can cause seizures and also require bulky equipment to generate them.
        Iyer hopes that low electric currents will offer a safer and more portable alternative. After running further safety tests, she plans to test the effect of the current on patients with frontal temporal dementia, a brain disease that causes speech problems. "This won't be a cure," Iyer cautions. "But it could be used in addition to drugs."
        The idea of using electrical current to boost brain activity dates back to experiments on animals in the 1950s. The early work showed some potential, but fell from favour because of a perceived link to electroconvulsive therapy, a controversial technique in which patients with depression are treated by having short but intense pulses of electricity applied to the brain.

Shock Waves Tear Food Bugs Apart"

        Shock waves have been used for the first time to destroy a host of common food bacteria. If the technique can be perfected, it could one day be used instead of pasteurisation to sterilise baby foods, dairy products and fruit juices without spoiling their taste.
        The process is being developed by Achim Loske and colleagues at the Autonomous University of Mexico’s Centre for Applied Physics and Advanced Technology in Querétaro. Loske subjected vials of bacteria to shock waves in a device called an electrohydraulic generator, which generates shocks with pressures of up to 1000 atmospheres, accompanied by intense flashes of visible and ultraviolet light.
                This combination, Loske says, killed bacteria in the vial. “A possible advantage of the treatment is that, as far as we know, shock waves don’t change the taste of the food,” he says.
        The pressure waves cause microscopic air bubbles in the liquid surrounding the bacteria to expand momentarily and then violently collapse -- a process known as cavitation -- generating small regions of intense heat.
                This, along with the pressure of the shock wave and the intense pulses of visible and ultraviolet light, are what kill the bacteria. “It’s a combination of compression, cavitation and electromagnetic radiation,” says Loske, whose results will be published in a forthcoming edition of the journal Innovative Food Science and Emerging Technologies.
                 The system needs further development as it does not yet kill enough bacteria to be useful. The best results were with Listeria monocytogenes, a food-borne bug which can trigger miscarriages. Least affected were E. coli O157:H7 bacteria, which have caused fatal food poisoning outbreaks.
                 At best, populations of bacteria shrank a thousandfold following some 350 shock waves given over 15 minutes. Loske is confident of achieving million-fold reductions, which would be enough to make food safe. “It’s a matter of increasing the shock wave energy and dose, and has been achieved recently in our lab with Listeria monocytogenes,” he says.
        His team is also investigating just how the shock waves kill the bacteria. “We still don’t know whether this would be cheaper than conventional technologies,” he says. Morse Solomon, a food safety expert at the US Agricultural Research Service lab in Beltsville, Maryland, says that understanding exactly how the bacteria are killed is essential if the technique is ever to be commercialised.
        Solomon’s team once tried tenderising meat using shock waves from a small dynamite explosion (New Scientist, 23 December 2000, p 10). That also killed some bacteria, but not in practical quantities.

Collection Of Unique Photos Includes Dinosaurs, WWII Soldiers

        Russian geologist, specialist for geophysical devices Henry Silanov founded a photo studio, in which one can see the collection of 80 unusual photographs - aliens, paranormal activities, people from the past eras.
        When a girl was packing a camping tent, Henry was preparing his camera to take a picture of her. The girl stood up and came up to the man. Henry clicked the camera. When the film was developed, they saw the girl on a shot bending over the tent. The picture depicted the girl several seconds prior to the moment, when the picture was actually taken. Henry Silanov photographed not the girl, but the informational trace she had left. It does not sound scientific at all - the experienced geologist is aware of that. He would never believe anyone saying a camera is capable of photographing moments, which were over before the moment of shooting. The scientist would never believe it, if he did not take tens of such photographs himself.
        He took the first unusual picture in St.Petersburg's Hermitage. In one of the halls Silanov photographed the throne of Russian tsars. The developed picture depictured the face of Peter the Great, who used to sit on the throne indeed. Silanov started taking photographs of the past. The geologist has a picture of the thermos bottle photographed on the grass. The image of the bottle is slightly covered with vague outlines of a bucket, which was used to keep fresh milk in. The image of the bucket is invisible, but it inexplicably appears on a film. Another photograph shows an old tree broken with a storm. One can see the pale shade of the tree top above the fracture too.
        Henry Silanov uses unconventional cameras to take photographs of the past. Object-glasses are usually covered with a thin layer of magnesium fluoride to filter the ultra-violet part of the spectrum. However, Silanov believes this is the exactly the frequency, which allows the film to fix 'the memory of the field.' The scientist uses this term, because there is no better definition for the time being. Henry Silanov thinks space is a huge hologram filled with information about everything that was ever placed or moved in it. Certain conditions make it possible to 'turn the memory of space on.' The memory is materialized in light quanta, which retrieve images of the past. Many years of his extended experience in photographing equipment became of great use in the new hobby.
        Traditional optical devices do not let ultraviolet rays pass through. To make a unique object-glass Silanov uses tiniest grains of natural quartz, analyzing them on a spectrometer. Then he melts the grains for the glass, and polishes the lens manually. The film is also special: it is deprived of the gelatin layer, which filters ultraviolet rays.
        Silanov took the majority of photographs in summer months, during his annual missions to anomalous zones of the Hopyor river. The scientist is the permanent leader of the public scientific expedition Hopyor. Every summer he leads a group of enthusiasts to the river-bed to study paranormal activities. There is a photograph of bushes, in which profiles of soldiers are seen standing out. The analysis determined the picture depicted Czech soldiers in 1943. The quartz object-glass captured a military unit, which was apparently deployed in the area during World War II.
        Another photograph shows a man wearing ancient clothes. It is supposedly a Scythian man - they used to inhabit the region in ancient times. Soldiers in pointed helmets bring up the Golden Horde warriors. One can see ropes across the river next to the warriors -- they were probably building a passage. Another photograph depicts a dinosaur, which was probably hunting in the region millions of years ago.
        It is impossible to choose the period of time-photographs. The scientist does not know how to control his photo time-machine; he has not invented the time-switch yet. Silanov tried to use five cameras at once: all photographs differed from each other.
        Many professional photographers analyzed Henry Silanov's pictures and found no technical flaws. Silanov learned from them he was not the only one to discover mysterious images on photographs.
        The unique camera is capable of photographing dead people too. This phenomenon has its own story. American citizen William Mummler took the first picture of a ghost soon after the invention of photography. He took a picture of himself, but was shocked to discover the see-through image of his cousin Sarah, who had died in the same house 12 years before that. A girl could be seen on the picture wearing white clothes, standing next to Mummler.
        Henry Silanov has his own collection of ghosts on film. The scientist believes they try to say they have not vanished, they live somewhere in a parallel world, watching over us. Henry is a skeptic person. He perfectly realizes a lot of people will never believe his theories, taking into consideration the fact they are all based on photographs. However, physicians will have to study 'the memory of the field' if other people's collections of unusual photograph present more evidence of its existence.

    A new alloy with unique properties can convert heat directly into electricity, according to researchers at the University of Minnesota. The  alloy, a multiferroic composite of nickel, cobalt, manganese and tin, can be either non-magnetic and highly magnetic, depending on its temperature.
    The new alloy — Ni45Co5Mn40Sn10 — undergoes a reversible phase transformation, in which one type of solid turns into another type of solid when the temperature changes, according to a news release from the University of Minnesota.
    Specifically, the alloy goes from being non-magnetic to highly magnetized. The temperature only needs to be raised a small amount for this to happen.
    When the warmed alloy is placed near a permanent magnet, like a rare-earth magnet, the alloy's magnetic force increases suddenly and dramatically.
    This produces a current in a surrounding coil, according to the researchers, led by aerospace engineering professor Richard James. Watch a piece of the alloy leap over to a permanent magnet in the video clip below.
    A process called hysteresis causes some of the heat energy to be lost, but this new alloy has a low hysteresis, the researchers say. Because of this, it could be used to convert waste heat energy into large amounts of electricity.

The Direct Conversion of Heat to Electricity Using Multiferroic Alloys

    We demonstrate a new method for the direct conversion of heat to electricity using the recently discovered multiferroic alloy, Ni45Co5Mn40Sn101. This alloy undergoes a low hysteresis, reversible martensitic phase transformation from a nonmagnetic martensite phase to a strongly ferromagnetic austenite phase upon heating. When biased by a suitably placed permanent magnet, heating through the phase transformation causes a sudden increase of the magnetic moment to a large value. As a consequence of Faraday’s law of induction, this drives a current in a surrounding circuit. Theory predicts that under optimal conditions the performance compares favorably with the best thermoelectrics. Because of the low hysteresis of the alloy, a promising area of application of this concept appears to be energy conversion at small ?T, suggesting a possible route to the conversion of the vast amounts of energy stored on earth at small temperature difference. We postulate other new methods for the direct conversion of heat to electricity suggested by the underlying theory.
    Making steam without boiling water, thanks to nanoparticles

   It is possible to create steam within seconds by focusing sunlight on nanoparticles mixed into water, according to new research.
    That observation, reported Monday by scientists at Rice University in Texas, suggests myriad applications in places that lack electricity or burnable fuels. A sun-powered boiler could desalinate sea water, distill alcohol, sterilize medical equipment and perform other useful tasks.
    “We can build a portable, compact steam generator that depends only on sunlight for input. It is something that could really be good in remote or resource-limited locations,” said Naomi J. Halas, an engineer and physicist at Rice who ran the experiment.
    Whether the rig she and her colleagues describe would work on an industrial scale is unknown. If it does, it could mark an advance for solar-powered energy more generally.
    “We will see how far it can ultimately go. There are certainly places and situations where it would be valuable to generate steam,” said Paul S. Weiss, editor of the American Chemical Society’s journal ACS Nano, which published the paper online in advance of the journal’s December print publication.
    The experiment is more evidence that nanoscale devices — in this case, beads one-tenth the diameter of a human hair — behave in ways different from bigger objects.
    In the apparatus designed by the Rice team, steam forms in a vessel of water long before the water becomes warm to the touch. It is, in effect, possible to turn a container of water into steam before it gets hot enough to boil.
    “There is a disconnect between what happens when we heat a pot of water and what happens when we put nanoparticles in that water,” said Weiss, who is a chemist and director of the California Nanosystems Institute at UCLA.
    “This is a novel proposed application of nanoparticles,” said A. Paul Alivisatos, director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and a nanotechnology expert. “I think it is very interesting and will stimulate a lot of others to think about the heating of water with sunlight.”
    In the Rice experiment, the researchers stirred a small amount of nanoparticles into water and put the mixture into a glass vessel. They then focused sunlight on the mixture with a lens.
    The nanoparticles — either carbon or gold-coated silicon dioxide beads — have a diameter shorter than the wavelength of visible light. That allows them to absorb most of a wave of light’s energy. If they had been larger, the particles would have scattered much of the light.
    In the focused light, a nanoparticle rapidly becomes hot enough to vaporize the layer of water around it. It then becomes enveloped in a bubble of steam. That, in turn, insulates it from the mass of water that, an instant before the steam formed, was bathing and cooling it.
    Insulated in that fashion, the particle heats up further and forms more steam. It eventually becomes buoyant enough to rise. As it floats toward the surface, it hits and merges with other bubbles. At the surface, the nanoparticles-in-bubbles release their steam into the air. They then sink back toward the bottom of the vessel. When they encounter the focused light, the process begins again. All of this occurs within seconds.
    In all, about 80 percent of the light energy a nanoparticle absorbs goes into making steam, and only 20 percent is “lost” in heating the water.
    This is far different from creating steam in a tea kettle. There, all the water must reach boiling temperature before an appreciable number of water molecules fly into the air as steam.
    The phenomenon is such that it is possible to put the vessel containing the water-and-nanoparticle soup into an ice bath, focus light on it and make steam.
    “It shows you could make steam in an arctic environment,” Halas said. “There might be some interesting applications there.”
    The apparatus can also separate mixtures of water and other substances into their components — the process known as distillation — more completely than is usually possible. For example, with normal distillation of a water-and-alcohol mixture, it isn’t possible to get more than 95 percent pure alcohol. Using nanoparticles to create the steam, 99 percent alcohol can be collected.
    Halas said the nanoparticles are not expensive to make and, because they act essentially as catalysts, are not used up. A nanoparticle steam generator could be used over and over. And, as James Watt and other 18th-century inventors showed, if you can generate steam easily, you can create an industrial revolution.
    The research is being funded in part by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in the hope it might prove useful to developing countries.
    Halas and her team recently spent three days in Seattle demonstrating the apparatus.

    Matchstick-sized sensor can record your private chats

    Now, a Dutch acoustics firm, Microflown Technologies, has developed a matchstick-sized sensor that can pinpoint and record a target's conversations from a distance.
    Known as an acoustic vector sensor, Microflown's sensor measures the movement of air, disturbed by sound waves, to almost instantly locate where a sound originated. It can then identify the noise and, if required, transmit it live to waiting ears.
    Conventional microphones work when sound waves make a diaphragm move, creating an electrical signal. Microflown's sensor has no moving parts. It consists of two parallel platinum strips, each just 200 nanometres deep, that are heated to 200 °C. Air molecules flowing across the strips cause temperature differences between the pair. Microflown's software counts the air molecules that pass through the gap between the strips to gauge sound intensity: the more air molecules in a sound wave, the louder the sound.
    At the same time, it analyses the temperature change in the strips to work out the movement of the air and calculate the coordinates of whatever generated the sound.
    Until now, the military has been using an early version of the sensor to pinpoint enemy planes and rockets. A single sensor can track and identify multiple distant jets, mortar rounds and sniper rifles in any environment.
    Earlier this year, Microflown's researchers discovered by chance that the device can hear, record or stream an ordinary conversation from as far away as 20 metres, says Hans-Elias de Bree, the firm's co-founder.

Human error solves problem of how to produce world’s most efficient water absorber more cheaply

It is so difficult to make that the researchers who first discovered it called it the “impossible material”.
Now a century later, a team of Swedish scientists have done the impossible by producing the substance known as Upsalite by accident – after leaving their equipment running over the weekend.
    The breakthrough has far-reaching commercial applications, as Upsalite (named after the University of Uppsala, where the scientists are based) is the world’s most efficient water absorber, with potential to be used for the removal of moisture in drug creation and high-tech electronics to cleaning up huge oil spills.
    A single gram of this elusive white, dry, powdered form of magnesium carbonate (MgCO3) has an extraordinarily-large surface area of 800 square meters thanks to numerous minuscule pores, each one a million times smaller than the width of a human hair.
    “Upsalite absorbs more water and low relative humidities than the best materials presently available and can be regenerated with less energy consumption than is used in similar processes today,” said Maria Stromme, professor of nanotechnology at Uppsala University...
    “A Thursday afternoon in 2011, we slightly changed the synthesis parameters of the earlier employed unsuccessful attempts, and by mistake left the material in the reaction chamber over the weekend. Back at work on Monday morning we discovered that a rigid gel had formed and after drying this gel we started to get excited,” says Johan Gomez de la Torre.
    The unwitting solution still involved bubbling the Co2 through the alcohol mixture, but at three times normal atmospheric pressure. A year of detailed analysis and experimental fine tuning followed, during which time it was discovered that when heated to 70C the resulting gel solidifies and collapses into a white and coarse powder.

    Large Graphene Crystals With Exceptional Electrical Properties Created
    When it comes to the growth of graphene -- an ultrathin, ultrastrong, all-carbon material -- it is survival of the fittest, according to researchers at The University of Texas at Austin.

    Another major finding by the team was that the "carrier mobility" of electrons (how fast the electrons move) in graphene films grown in the presence of surface oxygen is exceptionally high. This is important because the speed at which the charge carriers move is important for many electronic devices -- the higher the speed, the faster the device can perform.

    Theorists Predict New Single-Layer Material Could Go Beyond Graphene, Conducting Electricity with 100 Percent Efficiency at Room Temperature

    The search for large-gap quantum spin Hall (QSH) insulators and effective approaches to tune QSH states is important for both fundamental and practical interests. Based on first-principles calculations we find two-dimensional tin films are QSH insulators with sizable bulk gaps of 0.3 eV, sufficiently large for practical applications at room temperature. These QSH states can be effectively tuned by chemical functionalization and by external strain. The mechanism for the QSH effect in this system is band inversion at the G point, similar to the case of a HgTe quantum well. With surface doping of magnetic elements, the quantum anomalous Hall effect could also be realized.
    Stanene is a theoretical topological insulator which may display superconductivity at its edges above room temperature. It is composed of tin atoms arranged in a single layer, in a manner similar to graphene.[1] Stanene got its name by combining stannum (the Latin name for tin) with the suffix -ene used by graphene.[2]
    The addition of fluorine atoms to the tin lattice could extend the critical temperature up to 100°C.[3] This would make it practical for use in integrated circuits to make smaller, faster and more energy efficient computers

    Using the work of V. Kronin as the basis for their treatment modality, a team of Russian physicians has been working at the laboratories of the Centers For Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia, and Baylor University Medical Research Center in Houston, Texas, for more than a year. Their project demonstrates a revolutionary new medical treatment modality which capitalizes on this attribute of torsion field mechanics, to fundamentally cure patients infected with the hepatitis-C virus.i
    The frequency signature of the hepatitis-C virus was mapped using infra-red spectrometry, a specially designed scalar interferometer and MRI technologies. The complex waveform which is mutually exclusive to the hepatitis-C virus was then fed into a desktop computer and converted to a waveform which was its phase conjugated opposite. The resulting waveform information was then fed to a torsion field generator which was used to irradiate a .5% molal solution of NaCl (Ringer's) for a period of 30 minutes. The ionic salt solution emitted a phase conjugated signal when fed into the patient’s system. The solution was infiltrated into the vascular system of 15 patients diagnosed with advanced cases of hepatitis-C. After 30 days of three-times-per-week treatment, 14 of the 15 patients were diagnosed as being completely free of any sign of infection. The 15th patient died during treatment from complications arising from an extremely advanced, chronic case of the disease. The technology is now being tested under double blind protocols by Dr. Robert Pennington and virologists at the Baylor University Medical Center.

Student invents technology to produce world’s ‘cheapest’ power
A Bangladeshi student has developed a system that can produce electricity without any fuel, claiming it to be the world’s cheapest form of power.
The system known as Heavy Circular Moving Object’s Triggering Energy Conversion (HECMOTE) uses round objects moving on a plain exterior, to capture the surface’s gravitational energy to run traditional generators to produce power.
“The technology is about converting gravitational energy into mechanical energy to generate electrical energy. It will not use any fossil fuel and thus, will not release any toxic elements into the atmosphere,” said Shahid Hossain, inventor of the new technology, at a press meet at Dhaka Reporters Unity yesterday.
Gravitational energy is potential energy an object possesses because of its position in a gravitational field.
Hossain, who is studying for a diploma in electrical engineering at a technical college in Uttara, began work on his idea in 2007.
A 100KVA power plant adopting Hossain’s technology was set up on an experimental basis in Tongi in 2011, which has been running successfully since then.
Hossain, 29, said the production cost of a kilowatt-hour of electricity would be Tk 0.2 with his system, whereas it is Tk 14.46 per kwh for a diesel-run plant.
The production cost of a unit of electricity with other renewable energy sources is even higher than that of the fossil fuel-run plants.
The operation and maintenance costs are also much lower; a 100MW HECMOTE power plant will cost Tk 1.5 crore a month against Tk 5 crore of a diesel-run plant.
The diesel-run power plant consumes fuel worth Tk 144,000 an hour whereas the HECMOTE power plant will not use any fuel.
The youth from Dinajpur said he ignored a lucrative offer from a Canadian firm a few years ago that offered to buy all rights of the technology.
Hossain said Bangladesh, an energy-starved nation, would benefit from the invention before it becomes available for others. “I need support from the government to make it commercial, as I will not be able to set up a plant capable of producing 100 megawatts of electricity worth crores of taka on my own.”
His company, UltraMax Power Development Ltd, plans to set up plants that are within a capacity of 5 megawatts and 10 megawatts.
The life-span of the system is 25 to 30 years, said Hossain.
He believes his invention could create a new dimension in solving the world’s present energy crisis.

Blue Light vs Bacteria
Effects of Photodynamic Therapy on Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacterial Biofilms by Bioluminescence Imaging and Scanning Electron Microscopic Analysis
Objective: The aim of this study was to test photodynamic therapy (PDT) as an alternative approach to biofilm disruption on dental hard tissue, We evaluated the effect of methylene blue and a 660?nm diode laser on the viability and architecture of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial biofilms. Materials and methods: Ten human teeth were inoculated with bioluminescent Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Enterococcus faecalis to form 3 day biofilms in prepared root canals. Bioluminescence imaging was used to serially quantify and evaluate the bacterial viability, and scanning electron microscopic (SEM) imaging was used to assess architecture and morphology of bacterial biofilm before and after PDT employing methylene blue and 40?mW, 660?nm diode laser light delivered into the root canal via a 300?µm fiber for 240?sec, resulting in a total energy of 9.6?J. The data were statistically analyzed with analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey test. Results: The bacterial reduction showed a dose dependence; as the light energy increased, the bioluminescence decreased in both planktonic suspension and in biofilms. The SEM analysis showed a significant reduction of biofilm on the surface. PDT promoted disruption of the biofilm and the number of adherent bacteria was reduced. Conclusions: The photodynamic effect seems to disrupt the biofilm by acting both on bacterial cells and on the extracellular matrix.
Antimicrobial Blue Light: An Emerging Alternative to Antibiotics
    The continuing resistance of MRSA and other bacteria to antibiotics calls for a paradigm shift in the quest for therapies capable of stemming their spread. Alternative modalities currently under investigation include hyperbaric oxygen,15 photodynamic therapy (PDT),16 antibacterial clays,17 and blue light phototherapy.18–20 Interest in hyperbaric oxygen has waned, because of its moderate bactericidal effect compared with other emerging alternatives, such as PDT, antibacterial clay, and blue light. As shown in this issue of the journal, PDT, when used as an adjunct to conventional oral disinfection protocols, significantly reduces infection caused by ontopathogenic bacteria, including Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Prevotella intermedia.21 Moreover, the report shows that PDT kills cariogenic bacteria, including Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sanguis, as well as bacteria associated with infected root canals and peri-implantitis.21

    This finding is supported by the work of Gacez et al.22 (in this issue), who showed that PDT, using 660?nm diode laser and methylene blue, significantly reduced infection in human root canals inoculated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Enterococcus faecalis. Similarly, PDT has been shown to be beneficial in treating dermatologic and ophthalmologic disorders.23,24 However, serious concerns remain for its acute side effects and the non-targeted nature of available photosensitizers.24 This situation calls for other alternatives to PDT, in spite of its beneficial antimicrobial effect. The Ebers Papyrus, published circa 1600 BCE,25 and the 5000-year-old tablets of Nippur26 identified clay and sunlight as therapies used by humans to treat a wide range of diseases, including infections caused by bacteria. Emerging reports now show that certain types of clay and light in the ultraviolet (UV), violet, and blue spectra have antibacterial properties.18–20,27

    In this issue of the journal, we focus on articles that indicate that certain wavelengths of light are bactericidal and can eradicate recalcitrant bacteria in vitro and in vivo. First, a connection between light therapy and the antimicrobial action of clay may be seen in the work of Lipovsky et al.28 (in this issue) who showed that doping nanoparticles such as ZnO, CuO, and TiO2, with transition metals ions, or attaching the metal oxides nanoparticles to an organic molecule, enhances their antimicrobial reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation activity when irradiated with light in the visible and near infrared ranges. Furthermore, they found that ZnO and TiO2 nanoparticles had notable absorption in the blue spectrum, indicating that visible light could be used to trigger ROS production, and, hence, the antimicrobial effect of metal oxides. Studies of clay treatment similarly show that mineral leachates, including ions of copper, iron, cobalt, nickel, and zinc, from certain varieties of clay, are responsible for the antibacterial action of clay against Escherichia coli and MRSA.17 That light may be equally involved in clay treatment remains unexplored, but a potential role cannot be ruled out entirely.

    Similarly, encouraging data from Dai et al.,29 (in this issue) indicate that the bacteria- eradicating effect of blue light, long reported in a multitude of in vitro studies,18–20,27 is achievable in vivo. They found that irradiation with 415±10?nm blue light reduced bacterial burden in abrasive skin wounds of laboratory rats inoculated with CA-MRSA. Furthermore, bacterial clearance was achieved without significant adverse effect on keratinocytes co-cultured with CA-MRSA. And electron microscopy revealed that irradiation of the bacteria caused extrusions of cytoplasmic content, cell wall damage, and cell debris, providing an insight into the potential mechanisms involved in photo-eradication of MRSA. However, these results are achievable only with certain parameters, as suggested by the preliminary findings of Lanzafame et al.,30 (in this issue) who found significant reduction of bacteria with photo-activated collagen-embedded flavins (PCF) treatment, but not with 455±5?nm blue light irradiation alone, when treating pressure ulcers in mice inoculated with MRSA. The implication is that experimental model and mode of treatment can significantly affect the results obtained in these types of studies.

    Further evidence that experimental parameters influence outcomes can be seen in the work of Bumah et al.31 and Kim et al.32 For example, Bumah et al.31 showed that irradiation with either 405 or 470?nm blue light cleared MRSA progressively as fluence increased, and also as bacterial density increased, even though the proportion of bacterial colonies cleared decreased inversely as bacterial density. Whereas both wavelengths had similar effects on less dense cultures, that is, 3×106 colony-forming units (CFU)/mL and 5×106 CFU/mL cultures, 405?nm light cleared more bacteria in the denser 7×106 CFU/mL culture. And regardless of wavelength, more bacteria were cleared when the culture plates were irradiated from above and below instead of being irradiated from one direction at the same corresponding total dose. The latter finding suggests that the bactericidal effect of light-emitting diode (LED) blue light is limited more by the ability of blue light to penetrate the layers of bacteria than by bacterial density alone. That wavelength affects the outcome of LED photo-irradiation of bacteria is corroborated by Kim et al.32 They showed that, even though P. gingivalis and E. coli are killed with 425?nm blue light, 525?nm green light only induces bacteriostatic effect. Also, 625?nm red light did not kill any of the bacteria tested.

    Collectively, these reports present further evidence that light, in particular, blue light in the range of 405–470?nm wavelength is bactericidal, and has the potential to help stem the ongoing pandemic of MRSA and other bacterial infections.

Tumors partially destroyed with sound don't come back
Noninvasive sound technology developed at the University of Michigan breaks down liver tumors in rats, kills cancer cells and spurs the immune system to prevent further spread -- an advance that could lead to improved cancer outcomes in humans.
By destroying only 50% to 75% of liver tumor volume, the rats' immune systems were able to clear away the rest, with no evidence of recurrence or metastases in more than 80% animals.
"Even if we don't target the entire tumor, we can still cause the tumor to regress and also reduce the risk of future metastasis," said Zhen Xu, professor of biomedical engineering at U-M and corresponding author of the study in Cancers.
Results also showed the treatment stimulated the rats' immune responses, possibly contributing to the eventual regression of the untargeted portion of the tumor and preventing further spread of the cancer.
The treatment, called histotripsy, noninvasively focuses ultrasound waves to mechanically destroy target tissue with millimeter precision. The relatively new technique is currently being used in a human liver cancer trial in the United States and Europe...

In his book entitled "The magnetic barrier", Ferlini narrates how, in the course of research, yesaccidentally noticed a strange visual phenomenon generated by two permanent magnetsthat interacted.
By placing two horse-shaped magnets, so that the opposite poles will attract, if yesapproach very slowly, it reaches a critical point of attraction. A few momentfirst the attraction force is small but with a further small approach movement the attraction force grows very strongly.
When this happens, Ferlini noticed that in the central area of ​​connection between the two magnets,
the vision of space lost its transparency and deformed slightly as if it were therea lens. According to him, other people, with a little practice, managed to notice thisanomaly.
At this point he tried to place four powerful permanent steel magnets ina cross arrangement. With a suitable system of levers, he was able to bring the magnets closer together.

La Barriera Magnetica ( The Maagnetic Barrier )
The dimensional portal of Ferlini
Ferlini's dimensional portal or as he called it "magnetic barrier" is a real one phase shifting system that allows you to connect the size that we define by convention "Physics" with other dimensions of the holographic multiverse. Ferlini called it a magnetic barrier because basically this is what it is ... a magnetic wall that vibrates at a specific frequency and that it constitutes a dimensional gash.
How the portal is made
The construction of the portal at Ferlini is very simple conceptually and does not require circuits electronic pilot ... it is based only on four permanent magnets positioned between the four cardinal points. In this representation you can see the portal setup:
The four "U" magnets are arranged at the four cardinal points with alternating poles, the magnets are fixed on sled supports moved by a worm screw so that it is possible to adjust them finely the mutual distance. In the experiment Ferlini used very large steel magnets which they weighed several quintals each ... in theory the size of the magnets depends on the size of the area you want to influence and therefore for smaller areas just use smaller magnets and practical. This means that theoretically you don't need big powers to create a portal in an area small and we deduce it from the same story by Ferlini on the experimentation he did with these U magnets
The experimentation
Giovanni Battista Ferlini began his adventure by studying the pyramids of Giza. Initially it was not interested in studying portals and did not even suspect their practical feasibility. In this venue now we will deal with all the previous studies by Ferlini that have little to do with the portal but there we will focus on experimentation. However during his experiments with reproductions of the pyramids he realized that the magnetic energy emitted by the pyramids had a strong influence on various variables such as shielding from cosmic rays. Today after numerous experiments are well aware of how the shape effect of pyramids affects the ether and their magnetic action which is only a result of the torsional field emitted by the tip of the pyramid itself. At that time, however, the experiments with the pyramids made Ferlini think a lot who realized that the shape and arrangement of the materials used created more or less interactions strong with various effects. The brilliant idea that Ferlini had was to simulate the energy field of the pyramid using permanent magnets, after all from his experiments it was evident that there was a direct connection between the energy of the pyramids and magnetism. With his collaborators he disassembled an electric motor and extracted four permanent "U" magnets that were in the stator, placed them on four angles and while adjusting the mutual distances while maintaining the poles alternati noted that there was a critical distance in which there was a lot of attraction abrupt and if he regulated the distance so that this force was "on the border" between weak and strong yes it formed a blurred barrier in the center that prevented you from seeing the table below. So he understood that his theory was right and that the experiment had to be reproduced on a larger scale.
He then ordered four very large U-shaped magnets made of mild steel afterwards magnetized, each one weighed several quintals and they were transported with a truck. There he laid out some sleds, adjustable with worm screws, on the laboratory floor and experimentation began with i his colleagues. Approaching the four magnets he came to a critical distance, a very thin border precise where the mutual attraction force suddenly became weak to very intense.
The worm was very precise and it took many turns to move the this way he was able to finely adjust the critical distance by studying which position gave the best results.
Reached the optimal position of the strong vibrations they shook the whole laboratory and the magnets they began to vibrate most likely from the intense attraction. A mist greyish / bluish began to form in the area circumscribed by the poles of the magnets and Ferlini deduced that it could be ozone therefore they equipped themselves with gas masks to avoid the fumes poisonous, the mist became more and more intense in color and towards the green as it reached the critical position. While his assistants were more remote Ferlini approached the portal by leaning on one of the magnets to scan the magnetic barrier more closely, as the mask limited his sight and the movements decided to take it off and placed it on one of the magnets. Approaching the barrier he found himself catapulted in front of the pyramids of Giza but not today's ones ... but in the era when the pyramids were whole with the quartz tip coated in metal, that is, before the great cataclysm that shocked the earth 12,000 years ago. At a certain point he heard himself called from afar and found himself in the laboratory with the machine off, approached his own alarmed assistants who claimed that dr. Ferlini had seen it disappear among the magnets for some time to see him standing in front of them as soon as they deactivated the portal moving the magnets away from them. In consultation with colleagues he found that they decided to stop the experiment when they realized that there had been a sudden change in flow between two of the four magnets, regarding his absence they did not initially give him weight because they thought he was alone momentarily dismissed, unable to explain why suddenly they no longer saw him with them they thought that perhaps they had not noticed his movements in the laboratory. Ferlini told what he saw during the "journey" through the magnetic barrier and discovered that the Ferlini's gas mask had disappeared and they could no longer find it despite nobody was left the laboratory and the masks had been worn all except that of Ferlini who he leaned on one of the magnets. They later discovered that the flow variation between the two Magneti was located in the position close to the one where Ferlini placed the mask on the magnet same. Another important note on the experiment is that the ozone meter placed near the portal it revealed no traces of ozone and that even when you approached the mist you could breathe well not like when you are in a gas.

Theoretical considerations
Ferlini's portal may seem very different from other phase shifting systems they use the rotating interaction between high voltage magnetic and electric fields or those based on fields electromagnetic rotating with specific frequencies ... actually despite using a slightly different method necessarily use the same principles. To open a portal or carry out phase shifting you must isolate a zone of space and change the aether's vibration frequency of that zone itself ... since we are in a hologram it is normal that everything depends on the carrier frequency holographic choice, we change bearing and change size. In systems such as "philadelphia experiment ”pulsed coils are used between them in sequence to form a rotating field and powered at specific frequencies of dimensional resonance, in other systems it is used the interaction between a rotating magnetic field and an electric field that vibrates at a certain frequency.
In both cases we will have a rotating ether field that vibrates at a specific frequency. Already here it is It is possible to note the analogy of the aforementioned methods with that of Ferlini, in fact a magnetic field does not is nothing but a flow of recirculating ether in an area of space (flow that closes on itself) and the the trick used by Ferlini was to make several magnets interact so that their flux flows concatenates creating a rotary flow ... in fact Ferlini called it a "unified field". Here because the poles must be alternated and this is also why there is a precise critical distance ... why geometrically when the magnets are at the precise distance they create a round rotary flow which strengthens.
Imagine the lines of flow that come out of each pole that go to flow in the opposite pole and so on by uniting .... in such a situation there will be a unified rotating field or better still a flow of rotating ether just as shown in this figure:
Now once the rotating field has been created, we need to set a resonant frequency that connects us to a specific dimension or space-time point of the multiverse hologram. In the case of Ferlini this vibration may have been induced by both the mechanical vibrations of the magnets for simple attraction that by the vibrations induced by himself when he leaned on it. Surely it was not a precise system because it was subject to many spurious vibrations, every mechanical vibration on magnets produced a ripple on the field of the critical area. There is however a lot of clue Interestingly, Ferlini did not wander at random but was taken right to where he wished to go either consciously than unconsciously ... that is, in the time of the pyramids on which all his research was based scientific. This indicates that once the passage is opened the mind itself is free to choose where and in and in what time to move, in the extracorporeal projections only the astral body (holographic body like the physical one that vibrates on a higher carrier) is free to go where it wants but in the phase shifting the whole body, including the "physical" one, raises the vibration making it easy to move where you want. The mask, however, was always worn in Egypt but not in the same time ... evidently the flow variation induced by its passing through the critical zone has moved the time variable making it arrive in modern times. Clearly a lot will have to be done experimentation in this sense in order to better establish how variables act in phase shifting.
Another important element is the famous "mist". When interacting with the ether by moving it the frequency or thickening it in an area of space it becomes visible in luminescent form which at first sight is like a mist, its color depends on the density reached. This is it also observes in experiments with anti-gravity systems such as Schauberger's repulsins, the Searl SEG and others ... what interests us is that it is clearly visible even in phase shfting cases. In famous Philadelphia Experiment, the ship was wrapped in a bluish mist that was turning towards the green before disappearing ... even in the Bermuda triangle the ships before disappearing or having certain particular effects they enter a grayish, sometimes greenish mist ... they are both cases of phase shifting and obviously match with Ferlini's experiment.
Another consideration I want to make is that in order to create the critical area they should in theory even just three U-shaped magnets arranged at 120 ° from each other are enough and I don't think it is necessary to use magnets but instead electromagnets that are more practical and cheap. Ferlini preferred magnets because he wanted to use a "pure" magnetic source but electromagnets they could do the same job because what matters is only the generated magnetic field and the geometric arrangement.

An Open Question May 2003
I am not a physicist or electrical engineer, however, I do have an inquisitive mind and
a strong scientific background and exposure to oriental mystical activities. This has
led me in many strange and unexplainable directions at times. One of them is
described below to which I have as yet come to a scientific conclusion. Perhaps you
might shed some light on this subject from your perspective.
The ‘Beam-Me-Up Scotty’ Machine and the
Philadelphia Experiment
Unanswered Questions of Thomas C. Kramer
One of my close friends conducted a most intriguing kitchen table experiment
utilizing three hand wound coils around an iron core. The electromagnetic coils were
made from heavy gauge enameled copper wire scavenged from an old telephone pole
transformer. These were then mounted on a plywood board in an equilateral
triangular position facing the center point and the table was aligned N-S Earth
magnetic. The magnets were then charged by a series of power transistors which
when switched on caused an ever increasing frequency reversal in the polarization of
the iron cores.
When the apparatus was switched ON the table shook for a few moments and then
settled down as the frequency reached higher levels. At an unrecorded (due to the
lack of proper monitoring equipment) frequency, whatever was placed in the center of
this electromagnetic field DISAPPEARED.
In my research into anti-gravity and over-unity machines there seems to be a common
thread that triggers these machines at a specific electromagnetic resonance frequency
around or above 60 kilohertz.
This frequency threshold is created in these machines using either spinning discs,
tuned triodes, crystals or capacitors charging magnets to create a resonating high
frequency and/or harmonics thereof.
My friend had a pet rat, a parakeet and an old black tomcat that all were placed in the
center of the table and made to disappear and then reappear repeatedly when the
machine was turned on and off. He even took a non-conductive rod and swished it
around in the field when his animal friends had disappeared and when he switched off
the machine they all re-appeared none the worse for wear…..well, except for one
On that occasion the machine was switched on with his cat sleeping in the middle and
with the electromagnets aligned to N-S magnetic as usual, but this time when the cat
disappeared he rotated the table and then switched the machine off. The cat did not
reappear! So he switched the machine back on, waited an appropriate time, then
realigned the table N-S, switched the machine off….and what do you think happened?
Cat or no cat?
Well, somewhere in never-never land is one pissed off black tomcat.
The apparatus had several drawbacks that resulted in my friend abandoning this line
of research. Firstly the iron cores would heat up to glowing red and burn out the coils
and secondly, he fried a lot of power transistors, and thirdly, it used a ton of amps,
eventually blowing a 60 amp fuse on the power pole outside his house, with the
suspicious investigation by the local power company engineers as to the cause. He
quickly pulled the jumper cable from his meter and played ‘Daa-Don’t know.” But he
decided that shorting out the local grid would not be in his best future interests.
In my discussions with him I questioned whether or not one could induce a similar
field in an opposing set of electromagnets and then link these via cable or microwave
to another device at a distance. With both the local and remote devices on at the same
time, if the local unit was turned off first, would there be a transmission of the object
to the remote location when the remote is turned off later?
According to my research, this experiment is a reduction of the Philadelphia
Experiment which apparently was successful in bending light in a strong
electromagnetic force field. Unfortunately, at that time the scientists were not too
aware of the effects of microwave radiation and other electromagnetic effects on the
human body, particularly in unprotected areas outside of a Faraday cage. Most of the
crew got fried and stories of other crew members passing into another dimension were
most likely true as I have witnessed firsthand inter-dimensional materializations.
The Philadelphia Experiment also mentioned that the test ship ‘appeared’ in several
other locations around the globe when the machine was turned on. This suggests a
reflected image or an ability to instantaneously (or at the speed of light) shift matter
which has been transposed electromagnetically to a new location, where it may be
possible to reconstitute such matter by reducing its electromagnetic frequency.
I cannot explain the physics of this mutation of matter. Maybe you can. But I have
been working with an accomplished mystic for over 30-years and seen physical
materializations out of thin air and human spirit beings incarnate then
disassociate….by the will and grace of God at all times! And this phenomena is
universal at mystic levels all over the world, so it really isn’t just an isolated incidence
or cultural thing of magic or illusion. It is to my observation a variation in
electromagnetic frequency.
My mystic friend is also an accomplished healer and one night we asked the spirit that
comes into him about his ‘healing powers’ but instead of answering us in words he
showed us. He brought his index fingers to about 1 cm apart and generated a GREEN
spark! Now this is in the tropics where static sparks are non-existent due to high
relative humidity and the spark was not the typical static blue-white color, but a
specific electrical frequency. Hmmm.
Also, when he has been tested on medical equipment like EKG’s, he has caused
altered readings. And when filmed in his working state, the film is invariably
over-exposed. These indicate electromagnetic force field interactions, perhaps in the
standing wave fields currently being explored.
From what I have personally observed, there is a parallel world of Jinn and men, in
what is religiously referred to as being in ‘spirit’ form. What I have observed is more
of an electromagnetic-gravitational form that can coalesce and disassociate at will or
with a consciousness.
I further believe that this can be replicated with the machine described above, but
additional experimentation under controlled conditions would be necessary.
Most prophetic future predictions indicate that mankind will be transformed into a
higher and hopefully purer being. Quite frankly, I know quite a few politicians that I
would like to transform to a higher moral level, and if I had a booth that I could put
them in to beam them up, I most certainly would!
There is also another theoretical question related to this simple device which involves
the defiance of gravity. No measurements of weight loss were recorded during this
experiment, thus this factor is yet to be tested. However, when the objects
disappeared in the force field, it can only be assumed that the apparatus should record
a reduction in weight within the field and perhaps above and below as well. This was
observed by the disappearance of the cat.
A similar field effect is noted in the top secret TR-3B “triangular shaped” aircraft that
uses a spinning mercury plasma to effect an electromagnetic field (?) or perhaps it is
just created by simple electromagnets at each corner of the craft (?). It is said that this
craft achieves 89% weight reduction and that anything within the electromagnetic
field is weightless. The remaining 11% weight is in the conventional engines
mounted outside the field. To me, this seems to be a bit dumb as Townsend Brown
and many others have already demonstrated bi-polar electrostatic propulsion and
hundreds of people have made triangular high voltage ‘lifters’. And apparently
UFO’s use a similar propulsion system.
Gravity certainly has an effect on matter and light, but when neither are there, does it
still have an effect on the transformed electro-magnetic field?
Spirit beings certainly are not obstructed by gravity or walls but they have complained
to us about the electrical wiring in the walls! (And the electrical fields created by
them.) This is one of the reasons why caves, waterfalls and abandoned buildings are
often ‘haunted’ as such locations provide some screening and negative ion effects
from some man-made radiation effects.
I’m not sure if my friend’s electromagnetic field device is a bridge between worlds or
dimensions, but I think that it is enough food for thought for one night of tossing and
turning. It is always fun to throw a spanner in the works just to see what happens.
That’s scientific investigation.
I would appreciate your comments in relation to Unified Theory and perhaps as
related to space and time travel. Now there’s another twist. Sorry. But I will save my
thoughts on that for another time and dimension.
And as for the ole black tomcat…..I think that he just woke up and walked off the
table into another more pleasant dimension. May the force be with him.

For the research a series of experiments were conducted using homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engines. HCCI is a form of internal combustion using well mixed fuel and air which are compressed to the point of auto ignition.
Water electrolysis gas (WEG) or Brown's Gas was added as an auxiliary fuel to enhance heating potential of the fuel mixture. The addition of Brown's Gas was found to reduce the amount of gasoline by 35%-40%.

Researchers of the study note that the "...addition of Water Electrolysis Gas plays an important role to generate strong enough power and efficient operation by the combined effects of high heating potential and fast burning velocity".

An internal combustion engine includes a cylinder with a combustion chamber and a piston selectively changing the volume of the combustion chamber. The combustion chamber receives a mixture of air, hydrogen and a liquid fuel consisting essentially of water and a flammable, preferably non-fossil, substance. The contents of the combustion chamber are ignited generating power.

A system includes a resonant circuit having an inductor coupled to a piezoelectric oscillator. The system also includes one or more light emitting diodes (LEDs) configured to generate illumination based on an output of the resonant circuit. The system further includes a frequency generator configured to frequency modulate the output of the resonant circuit. In addition, the system includes a power supply configured to provide a voltage to the resonant circuit and activate a piezoelectric effect in the piezoelectric oscillator. The piezoelectric oscillator may include a piezoelectric material that is configured to undergo electrical distortion in response to an applied voltage from the power supply. The frequency generator can be configured to alter a capacitance and/or an inductance of the resonant circuit. Antibiotic-conjugated polyacrylate nanoparticles: New opportunities for development of anti-MRSA agents
This report describes the preparation of polyacrylate nanoparticles in which an N-thiolated b-lactam antibiotic is covalently conjugated onto the polymer framework. These nanoparticles are formed in water by emulsion polymerization of an acrylated antibiotic pre-dissolved in a liquid acrylate monomer (or mixture of co-monomers) in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate as a surfactant and potassium persulfate as a radical initiator. Dynamic light scattering analysis and electron microscopy images of these emulsions show that the nanoparticles are approximately 40 nm in diameter. The emulsions have potent in vitro antibacterial properties against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and have improved bioactivity relative to the non-polymerized form of the antibiotic. A unique feature of this methodology is the ability to incorporate water-insoluble drugs directly into the nanoparticle framework without the need for post-synthetic modification. Additionally, the antibiotic properties of the nanoparticles can be modulated by changing the length or location of the acrylate linker on the drug monomer.
USF invention helps close wounds big and small

The University of South Florida ranks 10th among universities worldwide in U.S. patents. One of the inventions that's putting USF on the map is a liquid bandage that helps close wounds both big and small.
    While getting her PhD, Dr. Kerriann Greenhalgh was collaborating with a professor at USF on a project when she discovered a polymer could be turned into a bandage.
    "I was really struck by its elastic properties, its ability to stretch and move with the body and then come back to its original shape which is very similar to the skin," Greenhalgh said.
    In the midst of her research, her soon-to-be husband had a nasty cut that developed staph that needed immediate surgery to avoid nerve damage or amputation. That's when she knew she needed to push forward with KeriCure.
    "It just kind of clicked for me," Greenhalgh said. "This would make a great skin, a secondary skin, an artificial skin to help clean wounds clean and infection free. "
    She tinkered with the formula, even tested it on her own cuts and scrapes, and created a water based solution that has no harsh chemicals or preservatives.
    "When you put it on, you spray it on your hand. It forms a protective barrier and it protects bacteria from getting in. But because it's water-based, there's no stinging involved and it actually helps to hydrate the wound and it keeps it moisturized which actually helps with the cosmetic outcome of the wound as well."
    While its competitors are flexible, they don't have the same elasticity which allows you to move your knuckles while it's on. It's also waterproof and sweatproof.

    Quantum entanglement in photosynthetic light harvesting complexes

Light harvesting components of photosynthetic organisms are complex, coupled, many-body quantum systems, in which electronic coherence has recently been shown to survive for relatively long time scales despite the decohering effects of their environments. Within this context, we analyze entanglement in multi-chromophoric light harvesting complexes, and establish methods for quantification of entanglement by presenting necessary and sufficient conditions for entanglement and by deriving a measure of global entanglement. These methods are then applied to the Fenna-Matthews-Olson (FMO) protein to extract the initial state and temperature dependencies of entanglement. We show that while FMO in natural conditions largely contains bipartite entanglement between dimerized chromophores, a small amount of long-range and multipartite entanglement exists even at physiological temperatures. This constitutes the first rigorous quantification of entanglement in a biological system. Finally, we discuss the practical utilization of entanglement in densely packed molecular aggregates such as light harvesting complexes.

    Non-classicality of the molecular vibrations assisting exciton energy transfer at room temperature

    Advancing the debate on quantum effects in light-initiated reactions in biology requires clear identification of non-classical features that these processes can exhibit and utilize. Here we show that in prototype dimers present in a variety of photosynthetic antennae, efficient vibration-assisted energy transfer in the sub-picosecond timescale and at room temperature can manifest and benefit from non-classical fluctuations of collective pigment motions. Non-classicality of initially thermalized vibrations is induced via coherent exciton–vibration interactions and is unambiguously indicated by negativities in the phase–space quasi-probability distribution of the effective collective mode coupled to the electronic dynamics. These quantum effects can be prompted upon incoherent input of excitation. Our results therefore suggest that investigation of the non-classical properties of vibrational motions assisting excitation and charge transport, photoreception and chemical sensing processes could be a touchstone for revealing a role for non-trivial quantum phenomena in biology.

    Eighty percent dietary methionine restriction (MetR) in rodents (without calorie restriction), like dietary restriction (DR), increases maximum longevity and strongly decreases mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and oxidative stress. Eighty percent MetR also lowers the degree of membrane fatty acid unsaturation in rat liver. Mitochondrial ROS generation and the degree of fatty acid unsaturation are the only two known factors linking oxidative stress with longevity in vertebrates. However, it is unknown whether 40% MetR, the relevant methionine restriction degree to clarify the mechanisms of action of standard (40%) DR can reproduce these effects in mitochondria from vital tissues of strong relevance for aging. Here we study the effect of 40% MetR on ROS production and oxidative stress in rat brain and kidney mitochondria. Male Wistar rats were fed during 7 weeks semipurified diets differing only in their methionine content: control or 40% MetR diets. It was found that 40% MetR decreases mitochondrial ROS production and percent free radical leak (by 62-71%) at complex I during forward (but not during reverse) electron flow in both brain and kidney mitochondria, increases the oxidative phosphorylation capacity of brain mitochondria, lowers oxidative damage to kidney mitochondrial DNA, and decreases specific markers of mitochondrial protein oxidation, lipoxidation, and glycoxidation in both tissues. Forty percent MetR also decreased the amount of respiratory complexes I, III, and IV and apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF) in brain mitochondria and complex IV in kidney mitochondria, without changing the degree of mitochondrial membrane fatty acid unsaturation. Forty percent MetR, differing from 80% MetR, did not inhibit the increase in rat body weight. These changes are very similar to the ones previously found during dietary and protein restriction in rats. We conclude that methionine is the only dietary factor responsible for the decrease in mitochondrial ROS production and oxidative stress, and likely for part of the longevity extension effect, occurring in DR.

    Experimental Demonstration of Light Capsule Embracing Super-Sized Darkness Inside Via Anti-Resolution
    Beams of light play a special role in our cultural heritage: World War II search lights picking out Nazi bombers, Gotham City’s Bat signal summoning help in times of distress and lighthouses warning unsuspecting shipping to stay away. Beams of light are beacons of safety.
    Now film-makers and optical engineers have something much more sinister to play with. Chao Wan at the National University of Singapore and a few pals have built a “darkness” beam that bathes objects in the absence of light.
    The new device hides macroscopic objects by beaming invisibility from a distance, an entirely different technique to the one used in conventional invisibility cloaks that have received much media coverage in recent years.
    The new device turns the conventional approach to optics on its head. Conventionally, optical engineers devise imaging system with the best resolving power possible.
    The basic idea is that an imaging system focuses light into a pattern known as a point spreading function. This consists of a central region of high intensity surrounded by a concentric region of lower intensity light and a higher intensity lobe beyond this.
    Engineers get the best resolution by narrowing and intensifying the central region while suppressing the outer lobe. (Indeed, one of the more exciting recent developments in imaging is in using this technique to resolve objects that are significantly smaller than the wavelength of the light being using to create the image, a technique known as super-resolution. )
    Now Chao and co have taken exactly the opposite approach. Instead of narrowing and intensifying the central region at the expense of the lobes, these guys intensify the lobes while suppressing the central region.
    The result is a central region where the field intensity of light is essentially zero. This is a region where objects cannot be resolved, hence the group’s name for this effect: anti-resolution.
    The central region is surrounded by a region of high intensity light which acts like a kind of light capsule containing a 3D region of darkness. “A three-dimensional object placed in the optical capsule does not cause scattering and one can therefore see the scene behind the object,” they say.
    In effect, it is an invisibility capsule. Chao and co say that the region of darkness can be as much as 8 orders of magnitude bigger than the wavelength of light used in the imaging process. That’s huge!
    And the imaging system itself is simple. Chao and co demonstrate it using a laser beam passing through a “lens” consisting of concentric dielectric grooves that are straightforward to manufacture. In their test, they hide an object—a letter ‘N’—that is 40 micrometres in size. That’s significantly larger than conventional invisibility cloaks could do when they first hit the headlines.
    Perhaps that’s not surprising given that the new device works in an entirely different way from conventional invisibility cloaks. These are built using bespoke metamaterials that steer light around an object placed inside them. By contrast, Chao and co can effectively beam invisibility from a distance.
    There are some limitations, however. The current device works at a single frequency of light so an interesting challenge will be to make broadband lenses that work at a wide range of frequencies...

 Walter RAWLS : Magnetically modified microbial metabolism    US5709223
    This invention pertains to a method of modifying the reproduction rate of cells by exposing the cells to north directional unipolar magnetic fields, thereby decreasing the reproduction rate of the cells. The reproduction rate of the cells can also be modified by exposing them to south directional unipolar magnetic fields, thereby increasing the reproduction rate of the cells.
    In U.S. Pat. No. 3,337,776, which issued Aug. 22, 1967, there is disclosed an apparatus for generating magnetic fields which are indicated to be particularly useful for biomedical applications. Although the patentee is not specific as to individual applications, he does state that magnetic fields generated by the apparatus can decrease metabolism and reacts on the spastic syndrome.
    A magnetic probe is disclosed and claimed in U.S. Pat. No. 3,664,327 which issued May 23, 1972 and states that the probe can be employed in relatively inaccessible locations, such as in body cavities of animals to cause relaxation of muscle tissue.
    A magnetic medical treatment device is disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 3,921,620 which states that the effects of a magnetic field upon a living body is dissociated by polarization and induced currents and is effective in controlling the sympathetic nervous system.
    On May 3, 1977, U.S. Pat. No. 4,020,590 issued to A. R. Davis discloses an apparatus and method for treating seeds in a unipolar magnetic field. It is indicated in the patent that this treatment enhances the germination rate of the seeds, as well as providing plants having greater sugar content, increased protein and other desirable features.
    In U.S. Pat. No. 4,134,935 which issued Jan. 16, 1979 also to A. R. Davis, a method is disclosed and claimed which uses magnetic fields for clinical examination of animals to determine damaged, diseased, abnormal or malfunctioning parts of the body. Changes in tensioning and relaxation of the body extremities are an indication of body abnormalities.
    A method for treating cancer is disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 4,622,952 which issued Nov. 18, 1986 and which involves timing an electromagnetic energy to the resonant energy absorption frequencies of the intracellular structures of the selected cells. and then exposing a subject to this tuned electromagnetic energy field. The field can also be tuned to the frequency which has been calculated to be closest to the resonant frequency of the cancer cells and furthest from the normal cells.
    U.S. Pat. No. 4,622,953, which issued to the same patentee, disclosed the identical procedure for the treatment of atherosclerotic lesions. In this process, metabolic and activity varying substance such as ferric hydroxide and dextran were employed and by applying the proper resonant energy, the heat in the diseased cell is increased by an increment sufficient to kill the diseased cell but not sufficient to kill normal cells.
    In a patent issued to Robert T. Gordon on May 5, 1987, U.S. Pat. No. 4,602,359, a process is described and claimed for the treatment of cancer in a host organism which comprises providing to the host organism minute particles capable of being inductively heated and which are of a size which can be absorbed into cancer cells. Thereafter the organism is subjected to an alternating electromagnetic field to heat the particles at that point in metabolic time when the maximum difference in magnetic susceptibility between the cancer cells and normal cells within the region occurs, and then continuing the inductive heating to increase intracellular temperature to selectively kill the cancer cells.
    Previous developments of directional magnetic fields began in 1936, when A. R. Davis first discovered that the north and the south magnetic pole fields each exhibited unique properties with respect to their effects on various forms of life. This discovery was slow to be accepted because of investigations by others who confused Davis' directional polarities magnetic fields with those which are simultaneously emitted by horse shoe type magnets and by AC-powered electromagnets. The common belief over the years relating to magnets has been that they emanate the same potential of type of energy. This belief has been found to be a misconception, since the two poles of a magnet are totally different in electric potential and effect. Correspondingly, the application of the respective poles to living systems has been found to produce quite different results. More specifically, it has been shown that magnetic energy has an effect on cells such as blood cells, nerves, bacteria, et al.
    Preliminary investigations regarding biological effects of exposure to magnetic fields have indicated a polarity dependence. Cells are deemed to be bioelectric in nature, function and behavior and studies have indicated that directional magnetic fields enhance biological activity. Moreover, due to the orientation of such cells and of the metal elements and other ions contained therein, the blood cells have been found to decrease certain biological effects when exposed to the north pole and to increase other biological effects when exposed to the magnetic south pole. This same type of reaction has been noted in connection with other type cells of the body, it having been observed that, as a general matter, the application of north pole energies to an existing unhealthy or abnormal condition tends to have an arresting, quieting or relaxing effect, to induce an overall healing reaction akin to the body's own defense mechanism. On the other hand, the application of south pole energies tends to have a strengthening, activating effect, which has been found useful in treating some abnormal conditions, particularly those associated with a slowing or weakening in function. Cancer cells exposed to the north field show a significant decrease in the number of surviving cells after a period of incubation. Conversely, the same type of cells, when exposed to the south field, indicated an increase in the number of surviving cells compared to the unexposed controls. A more detailed description of magnetic pole energies can be found in Davis et al, Magnetism and its Effects on the Living System, Acres U.S.A., Kansas City, Mo. (1974) and Davis et al, The Magnetic Effect, Acres U.S.A., Kansas City, Mo. (1975).
    The north pole, which is defined as the north seeking pole, is now believed to provide a negative form of energy while the south pole, which is defined as the south seeking pole, is believed to provide a positive form of energy. It has also been found upon examination of the electron paths associated with the fields surrounding the respective poles that the south pole end of a magnet provides a right hand spin of electrons, i.e., a clockwise rotation of electron movement, as contrasted with the north pole electron spin, which provides a left hand spin or counterclockwise rotation of its electron field.
    It has been further observed that the lines of magnetic energy leave the south pole to re-enter the magnet at the Bloch Wall where the 180 degrees phase takes place, and leave the Bloch Wall at that point to go on as the north pole energy to re-enter the magnet at its north pole.
    Magnetic enhancement or retardation of bacterial or cellular growth rates has been reported in the literature. For example, Davis and Rawls presented numerous examples of enhancement to seeds and various types of cellular growth (Davis, A. R. & Rawls, Jr., W. C., Magnetism and its Effects on the Living System, Acres, U.S.A., Kansas City, Mo., 1974). Bornstein reported magnetic inhibition of bacterial growth in burn wounds (Bornstein, L. A., in Argosy, June, 1968). Investigations sponsored by Bio-Magnetics Systems, Inc. have shown that unidirectional magnetic fields inhibited or increased the growth of cancer cells, depending on the field polarity, as disclosed by A. Trappier et al., in Evolving Perspectives On The Exposure Risks From Magnetic Fields, Journal of Nat. Med. Assoc., 82:621-624, September 1990...
    Results obtained from studies under the influence of north pole, south pole and during the control run are tabulated in Table 1. It can be seen that the highest average rate of phenol biodegradation and oxygen consumption is found during the run when south pole is attached to the bioreactor. When the magnetic south pole was applied, it increased the biological oxidation activity (oxygen consumption rate) by a factor of two as compared to the control run without magnetic field (from 0.7 to 1.5). FIG. 3 shows the effect of magnetic field on the rate of O2 consumption. It can be seen that the rate increases dramatically after 4 days under the influence of south pole as compared to the control and north. One of the measures of biodegradation is the increase in activity that is the rate of oxygen consumption by the microbes in presence of a substrate like phenol. An increase in oxygen consumption indicates that it is being utilized by the microorganisms to break down phenol into its metabolic products which ultimately are CO2 and water.
    The phenol consumption rate is faster by nearly 30% in case of the run with the south pole as compared to the control run...
    FIG. 6 shows the effect of repeatedly changing the south pole magnetic field to a north pole magnetic field and a north pole magnetic field to a south pole magnetic field in the bioreactor. The south pole field was consistently activating whereas the north pole field was inhibitory.

    A method is provided for focusing magnetic fields, reducing magnetic fields and shielding animate or inanimate subjects from magnetic fields. Further a media which has been subjected to a shielded or focused magnetic field is applied to a subject, as for example, topically. The method, in part, interposes between the subjects and the source of a magnetic field, at least one second magnetic field disposed in such a manner that the polarity of the second magnetic field cancels or at least partially neutralizes the magnetic strength of the first magnetic field. The second magnetic field can also be disposed so as to permit only a portion of the first magnetic field to escape shielding and thereby focused in a predetermined direction. Devices which normally emit magnetic energy and containing the shielding of the present invention are also provided.

    Hydrogen Sulfide Increases Hypoxia-inducible Factor-1 Activity Independently of von Hippel–Lindau Tumor Suppressor-1 in C. elegans

   Rapid alteration of gene expression in response to environmental changes is essential for normal development and behavior. The transcription factor hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1 is well known to respond to alterations in oxygen availability. In nature, low oxygen environments are often found to contain high levels of hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Here, we show that Caenorhabditis elegans can have mutually exclusive responses to H2S and hypoxia, both involving HIF-1. Specifically, H2S results in HIF-1 activity throughout the hypodermis, whereas hypoxia causes HIF-1 activity in the gut as judged by a reporter for HIF-1 activity. C. elegans require hif-1 to survive in room air containing trace amounts of H2S. Exposure to H2S results in HIF-1 nuclear localization and transcription of HIF-1 targets. The effects of H2S on HIF-1 reporter activity are independent of von Hippel–Lindau tumor suppressor (VHL)-1, whereas VHL-1 is required for hypoxic regulation of HIF-1 reporter activity. Because H2S is naturally produced by animal cells, our results suggest that endogenous H2S may influence HIF-1 activity.

    The orderly progression through the cell division cycle is of paramount importance to all organisms, as improper progression through the cycle could result in defects with grave consequences. Previously, our lab has shown that model eukaryotes such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Caenorhabditis elegans, and Danio rerio all retain high viability after prolonged arrest in a state of anoxia-induced suspended animation, implying that in such a state, progression through the cell division cycle is reversibly arrested in an orderly manner. Here, we show that S. cerevisiae (both wild-type and several cold-sensitive strains) and C. elegans embryos exhibit a dramatic decrease in viability that is associated with dysregulation of the cell cycle when exposed to low temperatures. Further, we find that when the yeast or worms are first transitioned into a state of anoxia-induced suspended animation before cold exposure, the associated cold-induced viability defects are largely abrogated. We present evidence that by imposing an anoxia-induced reversible arrest of the cell cycle, the cells are prevented from engaging in aberrant cell cycle events in the cold, thus allowing the organisms to avoid the lethality that would have occurred in a cold, oxygenated environment.

    A comparison study was made wherein three controlled environment chambers were used. One chamber contained 25 fresh picked Gala apples. A second chamber contained 25 fresh picked Gala apples treated with gaseous 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) which is commercially available under the trademark Smart Fresh(R). A third chamber contained 25 fresh picked Gala apples and the egg shaped device with the Terahertz radiation treated water of the invention.
 After 6 weeks the apples were tested to firmness, acid levels, color, taste and aroma.

Water clusters, however can also be used in the generation of intense broadband Terahertz radiation. In one embodiment, a method for generating terahertz radiation includes applying a laser pulse to water clusters in water vapor. The laser pulse may be of any intensity necessary to activate the vibronic properties, notably the terahertz-frequency vibrations and the large electric dipole moments of water clusters of the water clusters. The water vapor may be contained in a gas cell or injected from a gas jet nozzle. The large oscillating electric dipole moments of water clusters present in the water vapor in either systems can significantly contribute to the generation of intense Terahertz radiation. The peak power levels and broadband frequency range of the Terahertz radiation generated from these systems can then be applied to non-linear spectroscopy, imagining, communications, and biomedical diagnostics and treatments.
    Terahertz Frequency Communications
    [0081] The term "Terahertz communications" can mean effective data rates exceeding 1 Terabit per second (usually on an optical carrier), or communication with a Terahertz carrier wave. Although greater bandwidths may be obtained at optical wavelengths with point-to-point optical communications, a number of reasons can make communications at Terahertz frequencies attractive. One reason may be the availability of the frequency band and the communications bandwidth. Frequencies above 300 GHz are currently unallocated by the Federal Commission.     Acoustic cloaking device hides objects from sound
    Engineers have demonstrated the world's first three-dimensional acoustic cloak. The new device reroutes sound waves to create the impression that the cloak and anything beneath it are not there. The phenomenon works in all three dimensions, no matter which direction the sound is coming from or where the observer is located, and holds potential for future applications such as sonar avoidance and architectural acoustics.
    Using little more than a few perforated sheets of plastic and a staggering amount of number crunching, Duke engineers have demonstrated the world's first three-dimensional acoustic cloak. The new device reroutes sound waves to create the impression that both the cloak and anything beneath it are not there.
    The acoustic cloaking device works in all three dimensions, no matter which direction the sound is coming from or where the observer is located, and holds potential for future applications such as sonar avoidance and architectural acoustics.
    The study appears online in Nature Materials.
    "The particular trick we're performing is hiding an object from sound waves," said Steven Cummer, professor of electrical and computer engineering at Duke University. "By placing this cloak around an object, the sound waves behave like there is nothing more than a flat surface in their path."
    To achieve this new trick, Cummer and his colleagues turned to the developing field of metamaterials -- the combination of natural materials in repeating patterns to achieve unnatural properties. In the case of the new acoustic cloak, the materials manipulating the behavior of sound waves are simply plastic and air. Once constructed, the device looks like several plastic plates with a repeating pattern of holes poked through them stacked on top of one another to form a sort of pyramid.
    To give the illusion that it isn't there, the cloak must alter the waves' trajectory to match what they would look like had they had reflected off a flat surface. Because the sound is not reaching the surface beneath, it is traveling a shorter distance and its speed must be slowed to compensate.
    "The structure that we built might look really simple," said Cummer. "But I promise you that it's a lot more difficult and interesting than it looks. We put a lot of energy into calculating how sound waves would interact with it. We didn't come up with this overnight."
    To test the cloaking device, researchers covered a small sphere with the cloak and "pinged" it with short bursts of sound from various angles. Using a microphone, they mapped how the waves responded and produced videos of them traveling through the air.
    Cummer and his team then compared the videos to those created with both an unobstructed flat surface and an uncloaked sphere blocking the way. The results clearly show that the cloaking device makes it appear as though the sound waves reflected off an empty surface.
    Although the experiment is a simple demonstration showing that the technology is possible and concealing an evil super-genius' underwater lair is a long ways away, Cummer believes that the technique has several potential commercial applications.
    "We conducted our tests in the air, but sound waves behave similarly underwater, so one obvious potential use is sonar avoidance," said Cummer. "But there's also the design of auditoriums or concert halls -- any space where you need to control the acoustics. If you had to put a beam somewhere for structural reasons that was going to mess up the sound, perhaps you could fix the acoustics by cloaking it."
