Pharmacological properties of ginger (Zingiber officinale): what do meta-analyses say? a systematic review

This review evaluates findings from meta-analyses on the pharmacological effects of ginger (Zingiber officinale), focusing on inflammation, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), oxidative stress, and pregnancy-associated nausea and vomiting (NVP). A systematic PubMed search identified relevant meta-analyses published between 2010 and 2025. Ginger supplementation was associated with significant reductions in circulating C-reactive protein (CRP), high-sensitivity CRP, and tumor necrosis factor-α, indicating anti-inflammatory activity. In patients with T2DM, ginger significantly lowered glycosylated hemoglobin 1c and fasting blood glucose. Furthermore, antioxidant effects were observed through reduced malondialdehyde levels and increased glutathione peroxidase activity. In pregnant women, ginger significantly alleviated nausea symptoms but had no significant effect on vomiting frequency. Doses of 1–3 g daily were commonly used for anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antidiabetic purposes, while 500–1,500 mg daily in divided doses was used for NVP. Belching was identified as a potential side effect in pregnant women. Despite encouraging outcomes, high heterogeneity in one metanalysis (I2 = 98.1%) and potential risk of bias in ‘blinding’ and ‘other bias’ categories across studies reported by another metanalysis highlight the need for further high-quality large-scale randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses to confirm the clinical benefits of ginger.

Abstract -- Due to the daily rotation of the Earth the lower layers of earth's atmosphere are continuously crossed by horizontal lines of the geomagnetic field. For this reason, near the earth's surface there is an upward-directed Lorentz force. Under the action of this force the positively charged objects move upward and the negative charges down. As a result, this force can increase the lift of flying objects that have a positive charge: water vapor, birds, insects, airplanes and space rockets. In addition, the action of the upward directed Lorentz force blocks the deflection of the racket's body in the horizontal direction, that is, ensures its equilibrium.

Abstract -- A new type of water dissociation at ambient pressure initiated by the irradiation of aqueous electrolytes using an electromagnetic field with a frequency of 13.56 MHz is described in this study. A special reactor design allows the use of ex situ electrodes to form in situ electrical discharges in water vapour bubbles. The observed formation of molecular hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2) combined with the emission of light (‘burning water’ phenomenon) originates from a non-thermal plasma in water vapour bubbles. The influences of type of electrolyte, its concentration, pH value and external RF voltage on the gas formation rate as well as on the gas composition are presented.

Water dissociation in a radio-frequency electromagnetic field with ex situ electrodes—modelling of discharge initiation

Abstract -- Applying a new experimental design with a capillary glass reactor and plate electrodes outside of the reactor allowed the initiation of discharges in aqueous electrolytes under the influence of a radio-frequency (RF) electromagnetic field. This study focused on the mechanism leading to the initiation of such discharges in the restriction of a glass tube. The light emission correlated with discharges was analysed with optical emission spectroscopy. Electrons with energies between 20 and 45 eV were responsible for the dissociation of water molecules into (excited) OH, H and O radicals. Current–voltage characteristics were measured before and under discharge conditions. Modelling of the experimental setup and simulation of electrical field strength distribution support the hypothesis of the origin of discharges in general and experimental findings such as ring-shaped discharges and a minimum solution conductivity of about 1 S m−1 required for discharge initiation with RF voltages of 2 kV.

Dehydration of Mango and Apple through Atmospheric Water Harvesting under Vacuum

Abstract -- An adaptation of the concept of atmospheric water harvesting (AWH) with calcium chloride unsaturated aqueous solutions under vacuum (19 kPa absolute) and at ambient temperature (23 °C) was employed to dehydrate mango and apple. Under vacuum conditions, it was possible to remove 93–95% of the original water present in the raw fruits, and there was no statistically significant difference between fruit samples located at different distances from the desiccant source at the bottom of the system (P > 0.05). In contrast, when the dehydration was conducted at atmospheric conditions (100 kPa absolute), a significantly lower (P < 0.05) moisture removal was observed in the fruit samples that were more separated from the desiccant source. Colorimetric, infrared spectroscopy, and electron microscopy analyses showed that AWH under vacuum can dehydrate fruits, preserving color and slowing down multiple deterioration mechanisms.

Abstract -- Thanks to the recent banking crises interest has grown in banks and how they operate. In the past, the empirical and institutional market micro-structure of the operation of banks had not been a primary focus for investigations by researchers, which is why they are not well covered in the literature. One neglected detail is the banks' function as the creators and allocators of about 97% of the money supply (Werner, 1997, Werner, 2005), which has recently attracted attention (Bank of England, 2014a, Bank of England, 2014b, Werner, 2014b, Werner, 2014c). It is the purpose of this paper to investigate precisely how banks create money, and why or whether companies cannot do the same. Since the implementation of banking operations takes place within a corporate accounting framework, this paper is based upon a comparative accounting analysis perspective. By breaking the accounting treatment of lending into two steps, the difference in the accounting operation by bank and non-bank corporations can be isolated. As a result, it can be established precisely why banks are different and what it is that makes them different: They are exempted from the Client Money Rules and thus, unlike other firms, do not have to segregate client money. This enables banks to classify their accounts payable liabilities arising from bank loan contracts as a different type of liability called ‘customer deposits’. The finding is important for many reasons, including for modelling the banking sector accurately in economic models, bank regulation and also for monetary reform proposals that aim at taking away the privilege of money creation from banks. The paper thus adds to the growing literature on the institutional details and market micro-structure of our financial and monetary system, and in particular offers a new contribution to the literature on ‘what makes banks different’, from an accounting and regulatory perspective, solving the puzzle of why banks combine lending and deposit-taking operations under one roof.

This review evaluates findings from meta-analyses on the pharmacological effects of ginger (Zingiber officinale), focusing on inflammation, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), oxidative stress, and pregnancy-associated nausea and vomiting (NVP). A systematic PubMed search identified relevant meta-analyses published between 2010 and 2025. Ginger supplementation was associated with significant reductions in circulating C-reactive protein (CRP), high-sensitivity CRP, and tumor necrosis factor-α, indicating anti-inflammatory activity. In patients with T2DM, ginger significantly lowered glycosylated hemoglobin 1c and fasting blood glucose. Furthermore, antioxidant effects were observed through reduced malondialdehyde levels and increased glutathione peroxidase activity. In pregnant women, ginger significantly alleviated nausea symptoms but had no significant effect on vomiting frequency. Doses of 1–3 g daily were commonly used for anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antidiabetic purposes, while 500–1,500 mg daily in divided doses was used for NVP. Belching was identified as a potential side effect in pregnant women. Despite encouraging outcomes, high heterogeneity in one metanalysis (I2 = 98.1%) and potential risk of bias in ‘blinding’ and ‘other bias’ categories across studies reported by another metanalysis highlight the need for further high-quality large-scale randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses to confirm the clinical benefits of ginger.

Abstract -- A new type of water dissociation at ambient pressure initiated by the irradiation of aqueous electrolytes using an electromagnetic field with a frequency of 13.56 MHz is described in this study. A special reactor design allows the use of ex situ electrodes to form in situ electrical discharges in water vapour bubbles. The observed formation of molecular hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2) combined with the emission of light (‘burning water’ phenomenon) originates from a non-thermal plasma in water vapour bubbles. The influences of type of electrolyte, its concentration, pH value and external RF voltage on the gas formation rate as well as on the gas composition are presented.

Abstract -- Applying a new experimental design with a capillary glass reactor and plate electrodes outside of the reactor allowed the initiation of discharges in aqueous electrolytes under the influence of a radio-frequency (RF) electromagnetic field. This study focused on the mechanism leading to the initiation of such discharges in the restriction of a glass tube. The light emission correlated with discharges was analysed with optical emission spectroscopy. Electrons with energies between 20 and 45 eV were responsible for the dissociation of water molecules into (excited) OH, H and O radicals. Current–voltage characteristics were measured before and under discharge conditions. Modelling of the experimental setup and simulation of electrical field strength distribution support the hypothesis of the origin of discharges in general and experimental findings such as ring-shaped discharges and a minimum solution conductivity of about 1 S m−1 required for discharge initiation with RF voltages of 2 kV.

Dehydration of Mango and Apple through Atmospheric Water Harvesting under Vacuum

Abstract -- An adaptation of the concept of atmospheric water harvesting (AWH) with calcium chloride unsaturated aqueous solutions under vacuum (19 kPa absolute) and at ambient temperature (23 °C) was employed to dehydrate mango and apple. Under vacuum conditions, it was possible to remove 93–95% of the original water present in the raw fruits, and there was no statistically significant difference between fruit samples located at different distances from the desiccant source at the bottom of the system (P > 0.05). In contrast, when the dehydration was conducted at atmospheric conditions (100 kPa absolute), a significantly lower (P < 0.05) moisture removal was observed in the fruit samples that were more separated from the desiccant source. Colorimetric, infrared spectroscopy, and electron microscopy analyses showed that AWH under vacuum can dehydrate fruits, preserving color and slowing down multiple deterioration mechanisms.

Abstract -- Thanks to the recent banking crises interest has grown in banks and how they operate. In the past, the empirical and institutional market micro-structure of the operation of banks had not been a primary focus for investigations by researchers, which is why they are not well covered in the literature. One neglected detail is the banks' function as the creators and allocators of about 97% of the money supply (Werner, 1997, Werner, 2005), which has recently attracted attention (Bank of England, 2014a, Bank of England, 2014b, Werner, 2014b, Werner, 2014c). It is the purpose of this paper to investigate precisely how banks create money, and why or whether companies cannot do the same. Since the implementation of banking operations takes place within a corporate accounting framework, this paper is based upon a comparative accounting analysis perspective. By breaking the accounting treatment of lending into two steps, the difference in the accounting operation by bank and non-bank corporations can be isolated. As a result, it can be established precisely why banks are different and what it is that makes them different: They are exempted from the Client Money Rules and thus, unlike other firms, do not have to segregate client money. This enables banks to classify their accounts payable liabilities arising from bank loan contracts as a different type of liability called ‘customer deposits’. The finding is important for many reasons, including for modelling the banking sector accurately in economic models, bank regulation and also for monetary reform proposals that aim at taking away the privilege of money creation from banks. The paper thus adds to the growing literature on the institutional details and market micro-structure of our financial and monetary system, and in particular offers a new contribution to the literature on ‘what makes banks different’, from an accounting and regulatory perspective, solving the puzzle of why banks combine lending and deposit-taking operations under one roof.
